Sea Lions

 Subject: Sea Lions

Where: Ballestas Islands

When: October 10th, 2025

Description: The Sea Lion is a type of seal which, unlike most other seals possesses ears and the ability to walk on land with its four flippers. They can live up to 30 years, range from 200 lbs to 650 lbs at the largest, and grown have lengths of about 6 feet.

Interesting Fact: They swim at 16 knots on average but at their fastest they can reach speeds up to 30 knots. This speed is very useful for catching prey and escaping from predators, as most other sea creatures cannot swim this fast.

Observations: One group we saw were sunbathing on a rock while two others were struggling to get up and join the rest of the group.
