Subject: Bay of Fundy
Where: Burntcoat Head Park, Bay of Fundy
When: 9/7/2026
Description: The Bay of Fundy, located between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, has the highest tides in the whole world. The tides have a low of 11 feet but can reach up to 53 feet in certain areas. Approximately 160 billion tons of seawater flow in and out of the bay every single day
Interesting Fact: The tides have made trade by sea in the area very difficult. How are you supposed to sail boats in an area that dries up every day? People have come up with some ways to counteract this, including creating safe harbors for boats to stay in while they wait out the tides
Observations: We visited Burntcoat Head and saw the tides firsthand. We stayed there for about an hour and the tides raised a significant amount, maybe six feet while we were there. The thousands of snails, hermit crabs, and barnacles all across the ocean floor were slowly covered as the tides came in.
