Spanish Stenocereus (Cactus)

 Subject: Spanish Stenocereus

When: February 7 2025

Where: Adderley Plantation Ruins, Long Island, Bahamas

Description: A tree like cactus with branches able to reach up to 12 meters. The flowers are greenish-purple and only open at night causing them to only be pollinated by bats. It has red fruits that are spherical in shape along with black seeds

Interesting Fact: The fruit is spiny until ripe, when the spines fall off, making it easier to eat.

Personal Note & Picture: The one we found was arched over the path to create an interesting effect.
